Return policy

On this page, you will find all the information about our return policy, which applies to all our customers, regardless of where and how the purchase was made.​

Sometimes, that product that seemed perfect for your home, office or garden may not turn out as intended. It’s OK to change your mind. That's why, at IKEA, returning a product is simple and easy. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, you have 365 days to return your products. With the invoice, you can return any product, as long as it is not damaged. Refunds will be made by return card or through the same payment method as the original purchase.

Returning unopened products

You can return any IKEA product that is in its original sales conditions, during the 365 days following purchase. ​ Bring the invoice and the refund will be made to the same payment method.​

Returning opened products

We believe that everyone should be able to try any product. Therefore, you can return opened products during the 365 days following the purchase, even if they are assembled. Simply present the invoice to receive a full refund.​

Products that can’t be returned​

The IKEA return policy excludes soiled, stained, damaged or modified products ​​The IKEA return policy has some exceptions, see below for full conditions.

Things to note: returns, refunds and exchanges

  • To return a product, please bring your invoice.​​
  • If the package has not been opened, the refund is issued to the same payment method.​
  • If the product has not been used or does not show signs of usage, the refund will be made to the same payment method as the purchase. Otherwise, the refund will be made on a refund card*.
  • More than 365 days since you bought your product? If it's in condition to be sold, you can still use the buy back service​​.
  • If the purchase was made with the IKEA Family credit card, the refund will be made to the same payment method.​
  • For IKEA Family members, our transport and assembly guarantee covers breakage and accidental damage during transport or assembly. ​Find out more about the IKEA Family benefits.
  • Repair is better than replacement! That's why we offer a free spare parts as part of our commitment to extending product life. ​

Exclusions from the return policy

  • Personalized and/or custom-made products, such as stone countertops.​
  • Mattress returns that are not in the original condition of sale. If you wish to exchange a mattress, check the conditions here.​
  • Gift cards.
  • ​Unpacked food products (Article 134.º, n.º 4 Decree Law n.º 10/2015, of January 16)​.
  • This return policy is not applicable to business customers (business VAT number or customers with an IKEA BUSINESS card). Visit the IKEA for Business information page to find out how we can help you.​

The IKEA ‘love it or exchange it’ policy

We know we all sleep differently so having the right mattress is essential. "Love it or exchange it" is our policy that allows you to try mattresses at home for 365 days. ​That means that, after trying your mattress and if it doesn't fit, you can change it. ​

How to exchange an IKEA mattress​

Just bring the mattress and invoice to any IKEA store,​ we'll help you choose another one.​ If you want the mattress to be collected at your address, contact us to find out more information and the associated costs ​

Things to note: IKEA mattress exchange

  • You can exchange your mattress once within 365 days after the purchase.
  • The only condition is that it’s not dirty, marked or damaged*.
  • The policy does not apply to IKEA's sofa-bed mattresses, children's mattresses or mattress pads.​
  • New mattresses often feel a bit too firm, so wait a month to get used to yours.
  • It’s also important to choose the right pillow.
  • Once you’ve found the perfect mattress for you, it's still covered by our 10-year IKEA mattress guarantee.
  • If you want to exchange for a more expensive mattress, you’ll just need to cover the price difference between the original and the replacement. ​
  • If the replacement’s price is less expensive than the original, we’ll credit the difference to a refund card.
